Price: EUR 225000,-
Sold out
James Purdey, London, extraordinary matched pair of Ken Hunt engraved 12ga. lightweight game guns each with extra set of barrels, ca. late 1950's. Both guns weigh 6 lbs. 10 oz. and both have the following stock dimensions: 14 7/8"x 1 1/2"x 2 1/8"x 1/4" cast-off. Barrel specifications for both guns are as follows: Gun #26911 Barrel set #1 - 28" chopper lump with 2 3/4", 1 1/4 oz., proofs and full length ventilated top rib. Mint bores (.734"/.734"), choked SK/SK, with wall thickness .027"/.028". Barrel set #2 - 28" chopper lump with 2 3/4", 1 1/4 oz., proofs and solid rib. Mint bores (.731"/.731"), choked .012"/.030", with wall thickness .031"/.032". Gun #26912 Barrel set #1 - 28" chopper lump with 2 3/4", 1 1/4 oz., proofs and full length ventilated top rib. Mint bores (.734"/.734"), choked .010"/.020", with wall thickness .028"/.030". Barrel set #2 - 27" chopper lump with 2 3/4", 1 1/4 oz., proofs and solid rib. Mint bores (.731"/.731"), choked .007"/.010", with wall thickness .032"/.032". Best self-opening side lock actions with ejectors, bushed pins, double triggers, and non-automatic safety's. Stunning deep relief and highly sculpted floral and game scene engraving representing some of the best work ever done by master engraver, Ken Hunt. The whole set remaining in virtually mint condition comes in a single fitted oak and leather case complete with original canvas outer cover. Additionally there are separate individual motor cases for each gun. Harry Lawrence, the venerable Managing Director of Purdey's for several decades, wrote of these guns in an accompanying letter dated December, 1967, " --- I built these specially for the previous owner, who was a good friend of mine. I believe them to be as fine a pair of guns as we ever built." Anything I would try to add to that statement would be both superfluous and presumptuous. An absolutely magnificent pair of guns and likely the finest pair of Purdey side by side shotguns you will ever have the opportunity to own.
