Smith, London- .62 Cal. Damascus Muzzle Loader, ca. 1817-20

Price: EUR 22500,-
Sold out
Samuel & Charles Smith, London, extremely fine .62 caliber muzzle loading percussion sporting rifle, ca. 1817-20. 14 5/8" LOP. Superb 24" Damascus steel barrel with absolutely mint bore retains virtually 100% of the original finish and the nipple appears to be unstuck. Extremely fine and mechanically perfect lock with unusual replaceable hammer nose. Double set triggers. Trigger guard and top tang of the butt plate retain virtually 100% of the original brilliant black finish with the butt plate proper showing some expected loss of finish. Original maker's case, with trade label and many accessories, still retains period labels on each end of the case bearing the handwritten note, "Property of Col. Lindsay", who was most likely the original owner. Samuel, Charles, and William Smith produced some of the highest quality flintlock and early percussion firearms ever to come out of the London trade as witnessed by the fact that they are still the most highly sought after firearms among serious modern day competition shooters, even more desirable than names like John and Joseph Manton and James Purdey. This example is overall in virtually mint condition throughout and is as fine an example of an early percussion era British sporting rifle as you could ask for.
